These stones are collected as part of the quest Legacy of the Sorcerer Kings, given by Khadgar in Zangarra, Talador. The quest is part of a lengthy chain which culminates in the player obtaining a legendary ring. The quest requires a player to collect 125 of these stones.

There are three ways that players can collect Abrogator Stones:
- The stones themselves (as well as [Abrogator Stone Clusters]) drop off the bosses in Highmaul. The Clusters can be broken apart in order to obtain a few stones at a time.
- Garrison Work Orders have a very rare chance to contain a stone.
- There are five very rare Follower Missions which will reward three stones.
