Magister Astalor Bloodsworn is a powerful blood elf wizard who was the first person on Azeroth to come into contact with the naaru, a group of sapient energy beings aligned with the Holy Light. After the capture of M'uru, the naaru guardian of Tempest Keep, Astalor had the naaru returned to Silvermoon City and imprisoned, and ordered several mages to begin harnessing the naaru's natural Light energy. At first, the magister was hesitant to use these powerful energies, as the blood elves would be effectively going back to their previous high elven, Light-following ways — something that was completely opposite to what the blood elves are now. However, Light or no, it was still magical energy to be fed on by his people.
Lady Liadrin, a former priestess, was the first blood elf to offer herself to test the powers, thus becoming the first Blood Knight.
