Baron Perenolde is the name of a death knight hero mentioned in Mojo Stormstout's Guide and could randomly appear in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. A family name has a long history and usually speaks something of its bearers ancestry,[1] (WoWRPG 45) which means he is likely related to the Perenolde family who ruled Alterac in the past and the Syndicate in the present. He may or may not be the Perenolde nephew, Isiden, mentioned in Day of the Dragon and Beyond the Dark Portal.[2] (DotD 7) [3] (BtDP 100) If so he fled to Gilneas for a time where he was supported by Genn Greymane to his claim of successor to the kingdom of Alterac. He would be Aiden and Isolde's nephew, and the cousin of Aliden and Beve.

Identity[]

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

One possible identity for Baron Perenolde is that he is Isiden Perenolde.

Another possible identity for Baron Perenolde is that he is Baron Valimar Mordis. Mordis had a small barony in the Alterac Mountains. It is unknown if Mordis is Valimar's real name. Since the first element of his last name — "mor" — is derived from the Latin word for death: "mors" ("Mors" also being the Roman personification of death), it is more than likely it was a name he took up after becoming either Scourge, or later as a Forsaken. In Forsaken naming convention it is standard for an individual to take on a last name representing who he became.[1] (WoWRPG 52) This would imply that Baron Mordis would actually have had a different name, when he was alive. It may be possible that Baron Mordis real name was in fact Baron Valimar Perenolde.

Notes[]

  • As a random hero in Warcraft III, he appears in campaign missions, but on a random basis. It is unknown if he was retconned out of lore, or was never a part of it. His name is most certainly a reference to the Perenolde family.
  • He is most likely related to Lord Aliden Perenolde who still resides in a family mansion on the eastern shores of Lordamere Lake.
