Blizzplanet

Blizzplanet (the domain name) was registered on November 11, 2002 and joined the Blizzard Fansites Program shortly after. They post news of all Blizzard Games: Starcraft, Warcraft III, Diablo II, World of Warcraft, and others. They are very focused on Warcraft lore content to appeal to fans of the Warcraft franchise. Often a conduit for official lore, look for the Blizzard logo on their pages for sanctioned lore.

As part of the Blizzard Fansites Program, the fansite complies with the EULA and Terms of Service of Blizzard Games. They support Blizzard Entertainment with previews and reviews of upcoming licensed products like the Warcraft RPG Books, Warcraft novels, WoW TCG and other products from SteelSeries, Razer, MEGA Bloks, Insight Editions, and Gallery Books.

Additionally, Blizzplanet often interviews novel writers, comic book writers, Blizzard Sound and Music Composers, Voice Actors, and other developers.

Roots: 2002-2007[]

Blizzplanet was formerly Star-craft-2.com, founded by Yitten and Stephen. On September 22, 2002, Blizzard Entertainment announced Starcraft: Ghost at the Tokyo Game Show. With no hope in the immediate future of a Starcraft II announcement, and due to scarce news about StarCraft II, Medievaldragon suggested the team to launch a website focusing on news about all Blizzard games. One of the staff members: Justice, proposed "Blizzplanet" as the new domain name. LSDesign created the original Blizzplanet logo.

Blizzplanet was launched on January 2003 focusing on news about all Blizzard video games. Medievaldragon became owner of Blizzplanet shortly after launch when Yitten and Stephen graduated and got hired by a web design company.

The first public interview in 2003 was with Richard A. Knaak about Warcraft: Day of the Dragon. It was held in the WoWLands IRC channel.

For several years, Blizzplanet consisted of two Staff members: DarkNemesis (Chief Programmer) and Medievaldragon (Admin, Newsposter).

DarkNemesis was pivotal with the programming and maintenance of his custom-made Content Management System (CMS) during the initial years. DarkNemesis departed around 2008.

The Forum Affiliates Firence and Meara owned and administrated the RP-PvP.com forums, once a home for Blizzplanet visitors. They assisted with Public IRC interviews -- moderating the IRC Channel and participating in the interview with questions for our guests, and managing the community up to around 2007.

2008-2012[]

In 2008, Blizzard Entertainment invited Medievaldragon to the Blizzard Worldwide Invitationals held in Paris, France.

Blizzard Entertainment invited Blizzplanet to BlizzCon 2008-2011, the StarCraft II single player press event, Diablo III press event, and World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria press event.

Through 2008-2012, Medievaldragon has covered licensed product announcements and interviews at the New York Comic Con, Book Expo, and Toy Fair New York.

Over the first ten years, Blizzplanet news and interviews have been linked by many gaming networks like Bluesnews, Shacknews, RPGdot, GamingReport, ActionTrip, VoodooExtreme(IGN), JudgeHype, WoW Insider, MMO-Champion, Wow.Stratics, and many others.

Blizzplanet has been featured in the headlines of Blizzard.com, WorldofWarcraft.com, Wow-Europe.com and the Press Room of the Starcraft: Ghost Official Website.
