Bwonsamdi, also known as "Samedi",[1] is an incredibly powerful <Loa of Death> (or "Loa of the Grave")[1] that controls the spirits of the dead on Echo Isles and elsewhere. When a troll dies they are sometimes said to be "wit’ Bwonsamdi".[2] Bwonsamdi's history before becoming a Loa is unknown, however he is now one of, if not the most powerful troll Loa. His goal is to collect souls of the dead that are sent to the Shadow Lands. He is not all knowing and can not be in all places in the Shadow Lands at once. He does not torture the spirits he collects, but he does absorb their power, becoming more powerful. He considered Vol'jin his personal instrument of death.

Before being driven away from the Echo Isles by Zalazane and his hexed trolls, the Darkspear tribe once worshiped the great spirit. During the Liberation of the Echo Isles, Vol'jin tries to recruit Bwonsamdi to his side for the battle against Zalazane. After Vol'jin and his fellow Horde warriors prove themselves worthy, Bwonsamdi agrees to help them against Zalazane.

- Bwonsamdi is the only Loa that the Darkspears are known to have worshiped since moving to the Echo Isles who differs from the traditional Gurubashi Loa.

- Bwonsamdi seems to be inspired by the real Haitian Loa Baron Samedi. A quest in Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Inlinegfx/img_link_data.json' not found. Nagrand mentions a loa Samedi as the Loa of the Grave.[1] The Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Inlinegfx/img_link_data.json' not found. mentions a troll Loa inspired by Baron Samedi known as Samedi.[citation needed]
