The Charred Vale

The Charred Vale

The Charred Vale lies in the southwest section of the Stonetalon Mountains. Once a tranquil vale, nothing is left of its beauty, and an evil glow lies over the area. The very earth is blackened by the flames that consumed its trees. Today this place is infested by Bloodfury harpies who used to call this region their home, and wandering Scorched Basilisks, Burning Destroyers, Furious Stone Spirits, Charred Ancients, and Chimaera Matriarchs.

Interestingly enough, there are quite a few Mithril nodes scattered around the region. Most miners will not have a high enough skill to mine Mithril when they first reach this area, however.

At its southern end one can enter the zone of Desolace. This is also the point where Rexxar used to begin his patrol path into Desolace, before he moved to Outland.

In World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, it appears that some of the trees had started to grow again. Unfortunately, a volcano happened to erupt on the western side of the vale, ruining any hopes of the vale returning to the way it once was any time soon.

Notes[]

The Charred Vale can be a very dangerous place for characters below level 30 which is when most characters will be in the area (quests levels are roughly 25-28). This is due to the close proximity of many of the mobs in the area as well as the high number of wandering and overlapping mobs. Most of the harpies are in farily tightly packed groups around clusters of trees. Treants, chimaera, and some of the harpies all wander at random through the vale and many of the elementals and basilisks in the southeastern part of the zone have overlapping paths. It is very easy to aggro a sizeable number of mobs unintentionally and you must remain constantly alert for wanderers.

In the upcoming expansion World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, an erupting volcano spews out lava into the Charred Vale causing most of the vale to be burned and destroyed. The resulting destruction has lead to either the deaths or mass exodus of Bloodfury harpies, Scorched Basilisks, Burning Destroyers, Furious Stone Spirits, Charred Ancients and Chimaera Matriarchs. In the destruction's wake are Black Dragon Whelps, Fissure-born Fire Elementals and Black Drakes under the leadership of Seldarria. The eruption has also carved open a canyon to the Veiled Sea.

Name[]

Questionmark-medium
This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

An in-game sign pointing towards the Charred Vale has a plank over, suggesting the area was renamed after deforestation. However, there is nothing in lore that provides us with what it was once named. It could have been part of Greatwood Vale.
