During the Feast of Winter Veil, many special decorations appear in capital cities.

The Feast of Winter Veil, also called the feast of Great-Winter, is an in-game, end-of-year, several week long holiday event seeming to be the in-game counterpart of Christmas and other holidays at the end of the year.

The Feast of Winter Veil is upon us, and Greatfather Winter is busy spreading holiday cheer in major cites across the land! Here are a few holiday treats players can now experience in-game:

• The Jinglepocket goblins have set up their seasonal fare shops in major cities. Adventurers can purchase many holiday favorites - including Greatfather's Winter ale, candy canes, gingerbread cookie recipes, and mistletoe.
• All the cheer-spreading is making Greatfather Winter hungry, and he is looking for adventurers to get him his daily fix of milk and cookies.
• Smokywood Pastures needs a few brave adventurers to investigate the disappearance of a shipment of holiday goods traveling though Alterac.

• January 2nd is the last day of the Feast of Winter Veil.
• Kissing a ' Winter Reveler' under mistletoe will magically create for you 5 sprigs of [Mistletoe] or 5 [Handful of Snowflakes]... You can also get [Fresh Holly] (x5), which can be used to transform your mount into a reindeer for thirty minutes...
• There are snow mounds, [Holiday Snow], in the snowy parts of the Alterac Mountains, Dun Morogh, and Winterspring during this event. You can pick up [Snowballs] off them. They used to have a knock back effect, but that has been changed.
• There are special Hardpacked Snowdrifts in Alterac Valley during this event. You can pick 5 [Hardpacked Snowballs] off them. They have a knock back and dismount effect so use them wisely.
• Around this event, Blizzard forum posters a festive snowball icon, shown to the right.
• The Winter Wondervolt Machine is available in or just outside of several cities to transform your character's appearance into a Winter Veil gnome. Your gnome outfit is randomly red or green.

Winter Veil gifts in Ironforge

Near the end of the Feast of Winter Veil (December 25th through January 2nd), various gifts are available underneath the trees near Greatfather Winter in Ironforge, and Great-father Winter in Orgrimmar.

While some of the gifts are available to all, you must be at least a certain level to receive others.

• The 2018  [Winter Veil Gift] is the toy Toy Armor Set / Toy Armor Set and awards the achievement  At Least You're Being Careful. This equips adorable toy armor (well, armor-ish)! When used, the toy equips a helm and faction themed cloak.
• This year's [Gently Shaken Gift] contains Greatfather Winter's Hearthstone which is a toy similar to the  [The Innkeeper's Daughter]​. This gift also contains the usual  [Winter Veil Roast] or  [Winter Veil Eggnog].
•  [Miniature Winter Veil Tree] is updated to (post-squish) ilvl 335 at level 120.
•  [Glowing Gift] trinket is updated to ilvl 335 at level 120.

New for 2017

Items

•  [Hearthstation] /  [Hearthstation] is a new toy which sets out an "improved" Hearthstone table to play!
  • Not confirmed where this gift is from, but it is likely from [Gently Shaken Gift] as last year's present  [Disposable Winter Veil Suits] has likely moved to the [Stolen Present].
• The 2017  [Winter Veil Gift] is  [Toy Weapon Set] /  [Toy Weapon Set] and awards the achievement  Don't Play With That In The House. This creates adorable toy weapons!  [Wooden Toy Axe],  [Wooden Toy Sword],  [Wooden Toy Shield], and  [Wooden Toy Shield].
  • The items will probably allow you to spar with other players with special abilities, much like during the World Quest Jed'hin Tournament.^{[citation needed]}
• A new pet was added: Globe Yeti, which spawns inside the [Snow Globes].
•  [Glowing Gift] is a new drop in  [Stolen Present].  [Miniature Winter Veil Tree] is updated to ilvl 880.
• More Legion bosses drop festive hats:
  •  Krosus in the The Nighthold - Finely-Tailored Red Holiday Hat
  •  Saprish in the The Seat of the Triumvirate - Finely-Tailored Red Holiday Hat
  •  Varimathras in Antorus, the Burning Throne - Finely-Tailored Green Holiday Hat

Other stuff

• Updated music, high-resolution greenery, as well as a Snow Globe! Turn into a gnome and float around.
  • The Snow Globes in Ironforge and Orgrimmar contain Globe Yeti. One roughly spawns every 30 minutes.
• Catch tauren Greatfather Winter^ω τ ϖ sledding around Highmountain - he'll wish you Happy Winter Veil and give you 500 .
• The Abominable Greench^ω ϖ now scales to your level and deals level-appropriate damage.
• New Winter Veil music was also added.

New for 2013

• The updated  [Winter Veil Gift] should contain  [Crashin' Thrashin' Flyer Controller]​ for [Using Flyer Controller]^ω τ ϖ.
  • Related achievements:  Crashin' Thrashin' Flyer^ω τ ϖ and  The Danger Zone^ω τ ϖ.
• The previous Winter Veil Gifts ( [The Pigskin] and  [Foot Ball]) will now be available from vendors for 40.
• Chance at Rotten Little Helper^ω τ ϖ ( [Rotten Helper Box]) from  [Stolen Present] after completing  [80 Daily] You're a Mean One....

New for 2012

• Companions are now also battle pets: [Winter's Little Helper], [Winter Reindeer], [Tiny Snowman], [Lumpy], and [Father Winter's Helper].
• The [Winter Veil Gift] contains two new soulbound vanity items: [The Pigskin] and [Foot Ball].
  • Related achievement:  They're Both Footballs?^ω τ ϖ.
• The [Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater] is now purchasable from Smokywood Pastures vendors for 22.
• Chance at level 90 upgraded [Miniature Winter Veil Tree]^ω τ ϖ from [Stolen Present] after completing  [80 Daily] You're a Mean One....

New for 2011

• [Stolen Present] is a reward from the new version of the quest  [80] You're a Mean One.... It may contain among other things: [Lump of Coal] (summons the companion [Lumpy]).
• The [Winter Veil Gift] contains a [Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater].

New for 2010

• The [Winter Veil Gift] contains a [MiniZep Controller].
• Old vanilla dungeon and Burning Crusade dungeon bosses no longer drop [Green Winter Hat] or [Red Winter Hat].

New for 2009

• Another achievement has been added:  BB King (Alliance) /  BB King (Horde), which is not part of the  Merrymaker meta-achievement. The [Red Rider Air Rifle] required for this achievement will be found in one of the presents under the tree.

New for 2008

• New for 2008 are Winter Veil World Event achievements.
• The [Winter Veil Gift], the Clockwork Rocket Bot, is replaced in 2008 by [Crashin' Thrashin' Racer Controller‎]​. The Crashin' Thrashin' Racer is used to combat other Crashin' Thrashin' Racers by crashing into them. The Racer looks like a goblin rocket on wheels.

New for 2007

• Blowing kisses to a Winter Reveler can now give you 5 [Handful of Snowflakes].
• Winter veil of 2007 added a new mechanical vanity pet, the [Clockwork Rocket Bot]. These little guys attack each other and can be summoned as many times as the player wishes.

Patterns & Recipes

• Alliance Tailors can learn [Pattern: Red Winter Clothes].
• Horde Tailors can learn [Pattern: Green Winter Clothes].
• Cooks can learn [Recipe: Hot Apple Cider].
• Leatherworkers get [Pattern: Winter Boots].

Due to a bug in the delivery system, only a few people were mailed the new recipes, as it had been intended. This led to some question as to the requirements of getting the new recipes. On December 20th, 2007, Kisirani posted on the US official forums that a hotfix had been put in place, making all the new recipes purchasable from Wulmort Jinglepocket in Ironforge, and Penney Copperpinch in Orgrimmar for around 50s each. You do not even need the tradeskill to buy the recipe, but the recipe is BoP. The hotfix was activated on Tuesday, December 25th for all servers.

On December 16, 2007, a bug with [Pattern: Red Winter Clothes] and [Pattern: Green Winter Clothes] let a tailor get to 375 tailoring, even though the recipe was grey. People reported getting skillups every 3-6 clothes they made. This was later hotfixed.
