A Gilgoblin in-game

The gilgoblins are a species of aquatic goblin, of which art was shown at BlizzCon 2009. The gilgoblin race was introduced with World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.

They seem to understand other dialects like common and orcish.

We know very little on how long they have been around but from in game sources (being that there are outside sources), but we know that the goblin scientist Hobart Grapplehammer claims responsibility for the creation of the gilblin race. One of his many odd and... questionable feats.

Appearance[]

Gilgoblins have many similarities to goblins but also many differences. Their skin is blue with tiny dots. Like goblins they have a prominent pointy nose, however the gilgoblin's nose seems to have no nostrils. Their necks have what look to be gills which explains the absence of nostrils. Gilgoblins have fins on ends of their arms, with webbed hands and feet almost certainly for swimming. Their hair resembles seaweed and their ears are practically fins.

In Cataclysm[]

Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Inlinegfx/img_link_data.json' not found. This section concerns content exclusive to Cataclysm.

In Cataclysm, the gilgoblins are led by King Gurboggle, who is hostile to both the Horde and Alliance. His cousin Gilblingle however seeks the throne and commands his own group known as the Gilblins.

Trivia[]

  • Their name is a portmanteau of gill and goblin and likely means "gilled goblins".
