Grommash Hold

[48.6, 73.2]

, formerly called Thrall's Fortress by guards, is an enormous fortress formerly located in the Valley of Wisdom in the orc capital of Orgrimmar. Since the events of the Cataclysm and subsequent remodeling of the city, it was relocated to the Valley of Strength with updated, more intimidating architecture.

It is named after the orcish hero Grom Hellscream. The hold serves as the administrative center of the Horde. The warchief Thrall and the troll leader Vol'jin used to be found here, but with the departure of these two esteemed leaders Garrosh Hellscream and delegates from other Horde races can be found here now, as well as Eitrigg. It used to be home to an elite sect of warriors who served as Thrall's personal guard, the Kor'kron Guard.

After events that took place in Mists of Pandaria, Garrosh Hellscream was sentenced to trial and Vol'jin became the new Warchief. He can be found in the central room now, where both Garrosh and Thrall once were located. Following the events of the Broken Shore, and after Vol'jin's death Varok Saurfang is now located in Grommash Hold.

Mists of Pandaria

Garrosh Hellscream was found holding court within this new incarnation of the building, with representatives of the Horde races present around him. Priest and Paladin trainers can be found inside, as well as the city's only Archaeology instructor. Mannoroth’s skull and chest piece and possibly other parts of his armor were incorporated into Garrosh's throne, moved there from the Valley of Wisdom.

Within the antechambers of the hold were Orgrimmar's leading shamans, of whom, Thrall was the foremost. As of patch 2.1, it also contained a paladin trainer, Master Pyreanor.

Thrall held court inside the hold, while outside a traveler could find a monument to the orcs' triumph over demonic influence. Mannoroth, the demon lord who cursed the bloodline of the orcs, fell in battle to Thrall and Grom Hellscream. Mannoroth’s skull and armor were displayed on the trunk of an ancient tree, bearing a plaque that told of the orcs' victorious transformation and reminded readers of the mistakes of the past. The keep was simple, and while well designed, it lacked the riches and statues one might see in a human palace.[1] (LoM 42)

The Burning Crusade

Before the Burning Crusade expansion, Nazgrel resided here as well, but after the reopening of the Dark Portal, he moved to Thrallmar in Hellfire Peninsula.
