Hallow's End

Hallow's End is an annual Halloween-inspired event that takes place during the latter half of October.

"Once again Hallow’s End approaches, promising tricks, treats, and triumphs for boys and ghouls (heh) all across Azeroth! This year, starting on October 18, you’ll find a special Hallow’s End Wickerman set up and ready to burn in Stormwind and near the Undercity within the Ruins of Lordaeron. Every four hours, Genn Greymane and Lady Sylvanas will arrive to light each faction’s respective Wickerman in celebration of Hallow’s End. Of course, it wouldn’t be Hallow’s End without a little mischief… "

Lore

The day was once used for a festival near the end of harvest for humans of Lordaeron; This was coincidentally the same day that The Forsaken gained their independence from The Scourge.

Hallow's End marks the day the group of undead, who would later be known as the Forsaken, broke free of the Lich King's dominance and once again regained their free will. They celebrate this occasion by setting fire to a wickerman after a short speech from Sylvanas herself and smearing the ashes across their faces.

In the novel Arthas: Rise of the Lich King it is revealed that Hallow's End was celebrated by the Alliance before the Scourge even came to Lordaeron.

Shade of the Horseman

The  Shade of the Horseman is terrorizing the villages of Azeroth!

• Each of the following towns is attacked by the shade of the Headless Horseman:
  • Azure Watch, Goldshire, and Kharanos
  • Brill, Falconwing Square, and Razor Hill
• The attack begins with the horseman setting fires onto buildings within the town. Players must put out the fires using buckets of water.
• The horseman comes into the village and must be fought. He is level 11 and non-elite.
• When defeated, he leaves a pumpkin on the ground, which can be smashed for loot by every player.

Black Cats

Being a cat during Hallow's End isn't so bad...

• Black Cats are around cities... be careful though; if you kill one, you will gain [Bad Luck] for two hours. During this time, you will sense your impending doom... Has no effect on your stats, and is lost after death.

Trick or treat!

Looting the various Candy Buckets always results in some sort of award, but there's always the chance of being tricked as well!

• A trick can:
  • Turn you into a bat, cat, frog, human ghost, kitten, Mini Diablo, skeleton, pirate, ninja, or snake for 30 seconds.
  • Give you a costume for 60 minutes. Some costumes disallow you from casting and/or attacking, but you can cancel it anytime by right-clicking its buff icon.
• A treat can be:
  • Various non-buff masks for each sex of various races. (Buff-giving versions can be purchased from vendors - see below)
  • Free candy, including  [Tricky Treat]s (now used as currency!)
  • Hallowed Wands that change others in your party into various forms: Assassin, Bat, Ghost, Leper Gnome, Pirate, Skeleton, and Wisp. Gargoyle, Nerubian, and Wight added with Patch 6.2.2 (for 2015).
  • [Hallowed Helm]
  • [Sinister Squashling]
  • [Tooth Pick]s and [Penny Pouch]es

Apple bobbing

Apple bobbing tubs that give you a [Bobbing Apple] can be found in nearly all inns. You can hold up to 5, but can bob for more anytime.

Items

• Both [Pumpkin Bag] and [Traveler's Backpack] drop during the event, and can drop off identical mobs. The event sparks the beginning of the ability to find Pumpkin bags on humanoid mobs level 50 and higher outside of instances, however, almost any boss-type mob inside an instance has the chance to drop one. [Jack-o'-Lantern], an 18-slot bag, is added as a world drop as well.
• There are a number of pets you can obtain, including the [Creepy Crate] (via questing), [Feline Familiar] (from vendors; see below), and the aforementioned [Sinister Squashling] (vendors and quests).

Level 100 areas

• [Coin of Many Faces] toy drops from skeleton mobs (1% from Boneship crew and 2% from  Bonerender) around the southern coast of Shadowmoon Valley, just west of Socrethar's Rise.
• [Sack of Spectral Spiders] toy has a chance to drop (10% chance) from rare mob Arachnis that spawns in your garrison when you buy and use [Creepy Crawlers] (for 5x [Spooky Supplies] from Izzy Hollyfizzle <Events Coordinator>.
  • Arachnis spawns between Herb Garden and Mine in Frostwall or north of Mine to right of War Tower in Lunarfall.
• The alternate drop (90% chance) from Arachnis is [Sack of Spiders].
• If you find Pepe in your garrison wearing a scarecrow costume, you will get the achievement  A Frightening Friend and receive [A Tiny Scarecrow Costume].

Battle pets

This section concerns content exclusive to Warlords of Draenor.

If you buy and use [Creepy Crawlers] (for 5x [Spooky Supplies] from Izzy Hollyfizzle <Events Coordinator>), capturable battle pets will spawn around your garrison:

• Ghastly Rat
• Ghost Maggot
• Spectral Spinner

Buffs

• Horde - granted to players who witness Sylvanas at the burning of the Wickerman outside the Undercity. Mastery is added only for players who are level 80 or higher. Have to be unmounted to receive buff.

Decree of the Dark Lady - Increases mastery and Stamina for 1 hour. Counts as both a Battle and Guardian elixir. This effect persists through death.

• Alliance - granted to players who witness Genn Greymane at the burning of the Wickerman outside Stormwind. Mastery is added only for players who are level 80 or higher. Have to be unmounted to receive buff.

Greymane's Resolve - Increases mastery and Stamina for 1 hour. Counts as both a Battle and Guardian elixir. This effect persists through death.

• Both factions - obtained by clicking on the Wickerman.

Unburdened - You have cast your worries into the Wickerman's fire. Increases experience earned and reputation gained by 10%. Lasts 2 hrs.

Mobs

This section concerns content exclusive to Warlords of Draenor.

• If you buy and use [Creepy Crawlers] garrison decoration (for 5x [Spooky Supplies] from Izzy Hollyfizzle <Events Coordinator>), a rare mob may appear, Arachnis that has a chance to drop [Sack of Spiders] (90%) or the toy [Sack of Spectral Spiders] (10%).
  • Appears to be only lootable once per day per character.
  • Alliance location: To the right of the training dummies.
  • Horde location: Between Mine and Herb Garden.

Dungeon event

Players can queue for  [80] World Event Dungeon - Headless Horseman and get sent to a special version of the Scarlet Monastery graveyard where the Headless Horseman spawns. The Headless Horseman drops items up to item level 355 circa Battle for Azeroth (previously 835 circa Legion) and completing the quest puts a [Loot-Filled Pumpkin] which also contains items up to item level 355 (previously 835) in the player's bags.

Neutral

•  [1-80] Candy Bucket – available at each Candy Bucket located in the inn in almost every town. Note: Each is a different quest with a unique ID.
•  [70] The Headless Horseman – from Costumed Orphan Matron (Goldshire, Kharanos or Azure Watch) or from Masked Orphan Matron (Razor Hill, Brill or Falconwing Square). Becomes available after you have defeated the Headless Horseman in one of his town terror attacks.
•  [80D Daily] Call the Headless Horseman –  [80] The Headless Horseman leads to this one, however you don't need the prequest to call him.

Garrison-related

Get quests from Orukan and turn them in to Izzy Hollyfizzle <Events Coordinator>.

•  [100 Daily] Culling the Crew - Destroy 12 Boneship crew members; rewards 1x [Spooky Supplies].
•  [100 Daily] Foul Fertilizer - Destroy 8 kegs of Dread Fertilizer; rewards 1x [Spooky Supplies].
•  [100 Daily] Smashing Squashlings - Kill 6 Growing Squashlings; rewards 1x [Spooky Supplies].
•  [100 Daily Group] Mutiny on the Boneship - Kill Bonerender; rewards 2x [Spooky Supplies].

All the level 100 quests take place on the southern coast of Shadowmoon Valley just west of Socrethar's Rise.

  • It has since been updated to reflect the large amount of changes that went into effect during the 2011 holiday, including changes wrought by the Cataclysm, such as the destruction of Southshore.
