Level locking is the process of preventing your character from gaining XP, thus locking them at the current level when XP gain is stopped.

How to level lock

To keep your character from leveling higher for any reason, follow these steps:

  • For the Horde Horde faction:
    1. Go to the Hall of the Brave, Valley of Honor in Orgrimmar.
    2. Look for and talk to Horde Slahtz <Experience Eliminator>.[74.2, 44.6]
    3. For 10g he will put a hold on all experience points earned. You can enable your experience again by seeing Slahtz and paying another 10g.
  • For the Alliance Alliance faction:
    1. Go to the War Room, Stormwind Keep in Stormwind City.
    2. Look for and talk to Alliance Behsten <Experience Eliminator>.[87.6, 36]
    3. For 10g he will put a hold on all experience points earned. You can enable your experience again by seeing Behsten and paying another 10g.

Notes

  • Prior to World of Warcraft: Legion Legion, locking your experience would put you in a different battlegrounds bracket.[citation needed]
  • After Patch 8.1.5 players with an experience lock active are now once again placed in a different bracket.
