The Loch (Cataclysm)

The Loch drained after the Cataclysm

The Loch is the single most prominent feature of the dwarven territory of Loch Modan. It is the largest body of water on the continent of Khaz Modan, and were third in size in the entire known world after the Lordamere and Darrowmere lakes. Fed by an underground source, the loch was originally much smaller, but more than doubled its size after the dwarves of Khaz Modan built the Stonewrought Dam at the loch's northern end. Three islands and three islets doted the loch's waters, and remnants of the Second War can still be found scattered about the bottom. Several of the islets in the northern portion were inhabited by Stonesplinter troggs.

Following the destruction of the Stonewrought Dam much of the Loch was drained and the tremendous floodwave which bursted out of the dam flooded much of the Wetlands, and all of the Threshadons that previously inhabited the lake were swept away with the floodwave down to the Wetlands. Many Bluegill Murlocs now appears to have migrated up from the flooded Wetlands to the Loch, and have set up camps along the lake's beaches. The drainage of the Loch has also revealed that an enormous lake monster named Modan Monster inhabits and patrol the waters of the lake. In addition, where the Trogg camp was on one of the Loch islands is now an encampment inhabited by the Twilight Cult[1], which is also part of the new Loch Modan questline.

Trivia[]

  • Given the fact that the name of the lake itself is named "Loch" and that it's been revealed after the Stonewrought Dam's destruction that it's home to the Modan Monster and previously inhabited by threshadons (since it's which is often described as plesiosaur-like which resembles threshadons) are all clear references to the Loch Ness Monster.
