Mithril Ore is mined from Mithril Deposits, with a minimum mining skill of 150, but with the additional +10 from the mining pick it can be mined at the skill of 140.

Mithril Deposits may be found in many areas where the typical creature level is between about 35 and 55.
Mithril Deposits are most frequently mined in:
- Badlands (30+ mithril locations: start at New Kargath and follow the mountains clockwise to Dragon's Mouth - 4.2 patch)
- Tanaris
- Searing Gorge
- The Hinterlands
- Stonetalon Mountains
- Arathi Highlands
- Thousand Needles (A thorough search will yield 100+ ores everytime and there are no hostile enemies to bother you for the most part... It is the best place to farm mithril.)

- Mithril Ore is smelted into [Mithril Bar]s at a forge, requiring a mining skill of 175 or more.
- Mithril Ore can be prospected (consuming 5 ore) with a Jewelcrafting skill of 175 or more, resulting in:
