Patch 4.4.0 was speculated to bring a world event before the next expansion, which would be released with a "meaningful difference" in the release timeline compared to previous expansions.[1] However, this patch never appeared on the PTR and was otherwise never seen.

Wowpedia speculated that a whole war would be ignited during patch 4.4.0, which will lead the game into World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria. Theramore would be destroyed and the leaders of Alliance, outraged at this matter, will completely devote themselves to the war, which will reach its peak on the continent of Pandaria.[2][3]
