Practice Lock is an item usually made by Engineers that could be used to practice Lockpicking skill up to skill level 80 prior to Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Inlinegfx/img_link_data.json' not found. Cataclysm. This was a slow and potentially expensive way to increase your Lockpicking skill. After Cataclysm these items were effectively useless as lockpicking skill increased automatically by leveling and could not be increased independently of leveling.

The Practice Lock can only be used once. After that, it is opened and completely worthless. Many players will instead practice with renewable lockboxes off the Neutral 15 Merchant Coast near Ratchet, Horde 15 Amani Catacombs in Ghostlands or Alliance 15 Alther's Mill in Redridge Mountains.

On September 2, 2007, Blizzard patched-in support for the auction house telling potential buyers whether practice locks have been opened or not. Previous to this, unscrupulous players could auction their used practice locks to be bought by unsuspecting players.

Notes[]

  • Should be a poor item as of Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Inlinegfx/img_link_data.json' not found. Cataclysm, as they are useless to rogues and only serve a very brief purpose for leveling engineering.
  • Lockboxes allowed a rogue to practice their lock-picking as an orange, points-guaranteed skill until they reach 30 points.
