Quest givers are NPCs that provide quests for players. When the quests are completed, the quest giver will may bestow Experience or, if the character has reached the maximum level obtainable, money. Quest givers may reward the player with an item or two as a token of their thanks. Quest giving NPCs will not normally attack monsters or the opposing faction until they are attacked first.

Identifying Quest Givers[]

Main article: Identifying Quest Givers

A quest giver who currently has a quest for the player will have a golden exclamation point (Quest Avail 16x16) above their head and will appear on the minimap as a small golden exclamation point. Quest givers who will provide a quest within the next few levels have a silver exclamation point (Quest Future 16x16) above their heads. Repeatable and daily quest givers are indicated by a blue exclamation point (RRQ Avail 16x16), and weekly and legendary quest givers are indicated by an orange exclamation point (Quest Avail Legendary 16x16).

The mouse pointer will also change when moved over a quest giver, displaying the same color exclamation point as would be visible on the mini-map:

Some items and fixed devices can be quest givers as well. Items that can be picked up will have the flavor text "This Item Begins a Quest" and will have a golden exclamation point overlaid on their icon in the players' bag. Fixed devices such as crates, Hero's Call Boards, and Warchief's Command Boards will have an exclamation point as if they were NPCs. As with NPC quest givers, the player must interact with the item or object in order to receive the quest.

Quest enders[]

Main article: Quest ender

Many quests require the player to do something and then turn the quest in to the same NPC who offered it. Other quests require the player to travel, sometimes between zones and continents, to turn the quest in to a different NPC, who in turn may ask for more of the player's "help."
