This article contains lore taken from Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, its manual, and official bonus maps.

In the original Warcraft games, a rank is a title given to the player at the end of every mission depending on your Outcome and Score. The results screen will show your Outcome, Rank, Score, units built, units destroyed and resources harvested by all forces. The Outcome can be either Victory or Defeat. Victory awards 500 points, defeat awards 50. Score is increased by harvesting resources, (granting 1 point per bag of gold or bundle of wood), or by building or training units. Score can be decreased by losing units or buildings. Due to a bug in version 1.12, score may rarely increase when units are destroyed by the enemy, or decrease when building units.

During the mission, the score and rank can also be viewed in the automap pane by pressing F8. However the scores and ranks at the end of most missions are capped (verification for version 1.15 onwards required). For example, a player may rank "Slayer" or "Lord" during a mission, but at its end the score and rank may be reduced to 5,000 and "Raider" or "Knight" respectively. Score and rank do not affect gameplay in any way.

Note[]

WC1scorebug

Score bug during a mission prior to v1.15

A bug exists affecting scores over 12,000 - making your rank look something like this: "SQRVW". It was fixed in patch 1.15 but you must start a "new campaign".

Trivia[]

Patch 1.20 added a utility called WAR EDIT that lets you:

  • 1. Edit Men
  • 2. Edit Buildings
  • 3. Edit Spells
  • 4. Edit Technology
