`"Embrace the Cold"
Ras Splinterspine was a lich belonging to the Scourge, although his true allegiance lay with the Burning Legion and not the Lich King.
Biography[]
Third War[]
A wizard of Dalaran not particularly adept in magic or guile, but when Arthas besieged the city, it was Ras who held the retreat so some peasants and soldiers could flee into the woods. When an Abomination broke his back in 2 with a colossal cleaver, his steely-repose was noted so much so he rose as a Lich in service to the Lich King. He was given the name Splinterspine in cruel humor, but Ras became devoted to this new form and order that valued his virtues more than the haughty Dalaran Wizards could. Ras was at first pleased to be given a goal and devoted his time and energy to becoming a master of Frost magic. He disliked conflict and left battles and sieges to his lieutenants and lesser Scourge, slowing his rise in value and favor. However, he became fascinated with the malicious Dreadlords, especially the scarred and venerable Balnazzar. These charismatic demons seemed magnificently terrifying and more powerful than anything the Lich King had created. When Arthas fled Lordaeron and chaos erupted, it was Ras who was the first to pledge his loyalty to Balnazzar.
Scourge Civil War[]
During the Scourge Civil War, he sided with the Dreadlord Balnazzar in opposition to Sylvanas Windrunner. During the Siege of Lordaeron he commanded an undead faction within the Dreadlord Insurgents and was presumably killed by the forces of Sylvanas, Varimathras and Garithos.
Personality[]
A dedicated student, his mastery in Frost Magic was legendary and his skill was put down to his devotion to prove his worth. He didn't really feel pity for the Undead Scourge, but rather saw them as tools for his power and skill. It was his unhealthy fascination and glorification of the Dreadlords that led to his downfall and key mistakes in swearing loyalty to Balnazzar.
He was also a random Lich in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and his name is also similar to the lich Ras Frostwhisper.
