The Risen is a faction of undead Forsaken (led by demons) in the Eastern Plaguelands.
History[]
After the death of the Lich King, and Tirion Fordring taking Hearthglen for the Argent Crusade, the Scarlet Crusade became a shadow of its former self. Fallen crusaders were brought back to life by the dreadlord Balnazzar, who had been manipulating them in life as Saidan Dathrohan. Following the assault on Stratholme, Balnazzar shed his disguise and killed the remaining Scarlet Crusaders within the city. With great pleasure, Balnazzar then used his necromantic powers to resurrect them, corrupting their sense or torturing their minds. Now mindless and eternally loyal to their dreadlord master, they seek to take the Plaguelands for the Burning Legion.[1]

Under the orders of Crusade Commander Eligor Dawnbringer, adventurers were sent to annihilate the Risen in Tyr's Hand and retrieve some valuable artifacts in their possession. In Stratholme, he sent once more to finally deal with the remains of the Risen's leadership and eventually the dreadlord himself.
A similar fate has befallen the Scarlet presence in Tyr's Hand. Hence, in an ironic twist of fate, many of the Scarlet holdouts have literally become what they sought to destroy.
