Latin American servers

Shadowmoon is an EST PvP server. The name originates with the Orcish Shadowmoon clan of Draenor. The server was created just after release when the initial group of servers became overloaded. While the original name of the server was Shadow Moon, the realm name was changed to Shadowmoon in the late summer of 2006 (with the removal of the space). While the reason for the name change is unknown, it is suspected that the change was deliberately made by Blizzard for consistency, as there are currently several uses of the word. This change caused a great deal of problems for many of the server's players, mainly UI specific.

History and Major Events[]

As with any other server, Shadowmoon has its own history and other major events that will forever be a part of it.

The Capital City Raids (2005-2009)[]

The capital city raids was a time period on the Shadowmoon server where the Horde and Alliance both relentlessly formed 45+ man raid groups and invaded opposite faction capitals with the intent of either downing the racial leader of the city, (Thrall, Tyrande, Lor'themar, Sylvanas, Magni ect.). The raids experienced a new revivial when the achievement system was released. The last great capital city raid was led by Captinmorgan of the guild Captain Morgans Pirates, (later renamed Anasterion and now Josiah - Shadowmoon) in September 2009 with over 200 Horde members successfully raiding all 4 Alliance capitals back to back and earning the 1st achievement For The Horde! on the server

Great Zombie Plague of '08[]

Before the release of Blizzards second expansion, WoTLK, the company released a plague to promote its new expansion. By interacting with the conspicuious crates in booty bay, players could contract the plague disease therefore resulting in death or becoming a zombie. As a Zombie, players of both factions could infect other players with the same results. Within hours, this spread to all major capital cities, particularily Orgrimmar and Stormwind. All undead were friendly to zombies and these zombie players could even kill living members of their own faction. This event also predated the faction restrictions on PVP servers and represented the first time both the Horde and the Alliance could communicate with each other.
