Prior to World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Mists of Pandaria, a Skinning Knife allowed the player to skin the bodies of dead beasts, dragonkin, silithids, and (rarely) critters or humanoids to obtain leather, hides, dragonscales, scales, and silithid carapaces or chitin (Inv misc monsterscales 05.png [Heavy Silithid Carapace], Inv misc monsterscales 14.png [Light Silithid Carapace], and Inv misc monsterscales 13.png [Silithid Chitin]). Sheep sometimes yield Inv fabric wool 01.png [Wool Cloth].

"Skinning knife" is also the name for general skinning tools.


This item is sold by most trade goods vendors worldwide.


Patch changes

  • World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria β Patch 5.0.1 (Beta): No longer required for Skinning [Skinning]. Damage increased to 2 - 6 from 1 - 3 and DPS increased to 2.6 from 1.3. Added effect: +10 Skinning; does not need to be equipped.
  • World of Warcraft Patch 1.1.0 (07-Nov-2004): Added.
