New Crest[]

Anyone any idea what it will look like due to the addition of the draenai? (unsigned)

The Alliance and Horde crests are not being changed.

How it should've been[]

I am posting this for this is how I think the Alliance and Horde Should've gone out at the begining:

Humans: Warriors, Paladins, Warlocks, Priest, Mages, Druids (Replacing the Rouge)

Dwarves: Warriors, Paladins, Priests, Hunters, Rouge (Nothing is Replaced)

Night Elves: Warriors, Paladins (Added), Priests, Druids, Rouges, Hunters

High Elves (Replacing the Gnomes) : Warriors, Priests, Paladins, Rouges, Mages

Horde:

Check the Horde Discussion

You're hurting my branes here. 1) Humans. get freaking druids. Have you no sense of LORE? And then 2) you add Night elf Paladins. That's a kick in the balls. Finally, there are plenty of reasons why high elves are not in the game as a race, most of all the fact that there are like..... only enough to make a single town? Let alone a major city? Gawd. Pzychotix 15:30, 19 August 2006 (EDT)
My thoughts on changes 1 and 2: My brain hurts. My thoughts on change 3: a) the high elves could have SW as their capital along with the humans, and b) [[1]].-Bubblehearthlol
Here's what is wrong with that. 1.) Humans could never be druids. 2.) Night elves could never be paladins. 3.)The high elves don’t exist as a nation, only a race. There's far too little of them to become playable. Besides, Blizzard already put Blood Elves in the expansion.. They said that they don't want 3 classes of elves and that blood and high elves are physically way too similar. TM41
There's nothing on the Horde discussion. But you're wrong. This isn't EverQuest. Humans will never be Druids because it's not their thing, but Night Elves wont be Paladins because it's not their thing. And while I love the High Elves and want them in, the Gnomes ARE more important. There are more of them, and while they didn't appear in the third war, their technology did help in the hands of Dwarves. Saimdusan
Well, in fact Blood Elves ARE the High Elves (they're just different in their beliefs), no wonder that they're similiar. And back to the lore, I don't think that Night Elves would accept High Elves after they've exiled them. Konrad-kun

Even when Silvermoon fell, the survivors still outnumbered the gnomes, so just because theres few in WoW, doesn't mean theres few in the Lore. And on the rogue lore it said High Elves thought the rogue class was weird. They should have been hunters and druids. Mr.X8 22:51, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Why Night Elves are in Alliance[]

This was asked on the night elf page, but there isn't anything in the game manuals or in game quests to explain it, are there any outside sources that describe why Night elves joined the alliance? (Besides gameplay reasons, such as "3 factions would be much harder ot balance").

Yeah, the NE joining the Alliance (IMO) is less likely than the UD joining the Horde Saimdusan 08:18, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Because they were part of the Alliance from Warcraft III? ;P --Sky (t · c · w) 08:23, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Well ya they joined the Alliance and the Horde for the final battle in Warcraft III. Additional reasons why they joined can be found in the RPG.Baggins 08:26, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Final battle [against the Legion]. ;P --Sky (t · c · w) 08:31, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Which reasons were there for joining the alliance over staying neutral and being friendly with both? (Which is really what the question is asking, because the mount Hyjal battle would lead to something like this, rather than the night elves deciding immediately afterwards that the horde has to be kicked off the continent.)Minionman 13:40, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Simple,Malfurion who would have wanted to stay neutral as part of the Cenarion circle and had a good relationship with the Horde. Left to the Emerald dream and Staghelm split a significant portion of night elves from the Cenarion circle and planted that horrible tree. Staghelm was also against tauren druids because he is a racist. Zarnks 23:14, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah i hate that guy....anyway it would also be the fact that the orcs "desecrated" their forests in the third war i think.Anyway the NE don't get along that well with the rest of the Alliance either because they think themselves too wise and and patronize the other races(many of them anyway)(Marakanis)

Point of note Malfurion joined the Alliance along with Tyrande during the time period Alliance & Horde Compendium was set. Staghelm took over later, but the night elves were already part of the Alliance. One of the reasons given for why they chose the Alliance was they hadn't quite forgiven all the Orcs for killing Cenarious, and as said before desecrating the forest.Baggins 18:14, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

The Article on the Alliance states that Night Elves play a larger role in the Alliance Military. I don't see that they do. I am hard pressed to find examples in WoW where the Night Elves are fighting as part of an Alliance force where humans and dwarves do not play a greater role. Lissa 21:35, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Well human and dwarfen military probably isn't that organized as the night elves.I don't know about the night elf quests what they say about the night elf military actions but the dwarfs and humans are almost without organization if you follow the quests from the humans(Elwyn,Duskwood,Redridge,Westfall) and dwarfs(Dun Morogh,Loch Modan,Wetlands). So i guess it was refering to more organized military actions. That's my opinion anyway(Marakanis)

Theres plenty of human infantry fighting in hfp at the Dark Portal. Havn't noticed any from Theramore the 'true' alliance though. :)

War with the Horde?[]

Some find it confusing as to whether or not the Alliance is at war with the Horde. There are very few quests Alliance side that call for slaying members of the Horde. Orcs you are ordered to kill are either not usually with Thrall's Horde, IE the Blackrock clan. This has lead some to believe there is no war, only skirmishes in certain regions, such as the Arathi Basin, Alterac Valley, or Warsong Gulch.

However, there are quests for the Horde to openly kill Alliance NPC's, but are these members of the Alliance the ones we should be paying attention to? Daelin Proudmore was mourned by his daughter, true, but does she want revenge on Rexxar and the Horde? No...

I believe there is still some sort of uneasy truce between the two factions that sometimes erupts in open combat.

Argument for Uneasy Truce...

It doesnt seem to me that the Alliance and the Horde are officially at war. Sure they skirmish, but it just doesnt seem that they're actually at war. This isn't just an opinion, it is indeed backed by fact. Take the Horde quest line to save Magni Bronzebeard's daughter. Why does Thrall want you to do this? To improve relations with Ironforge. Would you try to improve relations with a power you're at war with?

Also take the Alliance quest 'Enemy of my Enemy...' When you initiate conversation with Field Marshal Brock, he says this...

"Now we focus on the second target - Forge Camp: Rage. It lies just west of Mageddon. Trouble is, the demons have a number of fel cannons aimed straight at the Horde's outpost of Thrallmar! Though I can scarcely believe it, we actually need the Horde to help us hold the line at the Dark Portal. We can't afford to let Thrallmar fall. You've got to destroy these cannons before the Legion pulverizes our allies!"

As if that is not enough evidence, simply look at the scene after you walk through the Dark Portal. What do you see? Orcs, Trolls, Blood Elves, Tauren, Undead, Humans, Gnomes, Dwarves, Night Elves, and Draenei all fighting alongside each other to hold back the Burning Legion.

The fact that we can slaughter each other, and often do just for fun does not play into the lore. When, say... any random Alliance guild infiltrates Orgrimmar and kills Thrall, does Blizzard immediatly impement that into the lore of the game? No, Thrall goes 'home' to Nagrand, and meets the true, brown-skinned orcs in Garadar. Though we can jockey for position in the eastern plaguelands, and fight over ruined towers, the ultimate objective remains Naxxramas, not the undead mage named "Pwnsyounoob."

In my opinion, a sort of truce still exists, though it is strained mightily. Combat in the bone wastes, hellfire, etc does not help this, but in the long run, i believe both sides (and more importantly, blizzard) understand that there are much more important things to both sides of the conflict than slaughtering each other. As i have shown, both sides even have slight interests in helping in some instances.

K... that was long winded. Any comments?
