Inspiration?

It seems some blackrock clan member's name is taken from the characters of Samurai Shodown.
Jubei'Thos is Jubei Yagyu, Haohmarush is Haohmaru, Khanzo is Hanzo Hattori, and Genjuros is Genjuro Kibagami.

That is indeed interesting. Of course Blizzard has done so many of these easter egg things like overclick the sorceress and she says "hit me baby,..one more time" or Illidan's "Horns, hooves, wings? what is this Diablo?", Rexxar's "see that rock? that's my pillow" (assumed to be a refference to Metallica's wherever i may roam) I wouldn't be surprised if this was intended. However, are all those characters cannon? i know Jubei'Thos was in a mission. Arthas and Uther killed a Blackrock Blademaster, (and a few more in the undead campaign) and a Blademaster of SOME tribe, probably not Blackrock, assisted Rexxar.

Hanzo Hattori is not necessarily from Samurai Spirits, he was also the inspiration for many other video game characters (among these are MK's Scorpion,) and he might have been a real ninja.

Name

If they only seized control of Blackrock Spire during the First War, why were they called the Blackrock clan before this? Or was the mountain named for them? Probably it was named for them--The last Alterac 05:10, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

From Tides of Darkness we now know it was a coincidence. Orgrim even saw it as a good sign that what would become their stronghold shared a name with his clan.Warthok 06:13, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Nope, Tides of Darkness confirms it was named Black Rock before orcs even got there, actually the RPG and some of the in-game books implied or stated as much earlier as well. Infact it was the dwarves that originally named it Blackrock. We know that Blackrock clan existed before they came to Azeroth in Rise of the Horde.Baggins 07:34, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

I am still pretty sure when Gul Dan gave Blackhand his own clan he named it after the 1st place he conquored (IE black rock spire)--The last Alterac 00:03, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Read, Rise of the Horde, the Blackrock Clan was existence even before the Horde arose. I'm pretty sure the same case occurs in the RPG material as well.Baggins 00:05, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Yep even Horde Player's Guide mentions that Blackrocks existed before they discovered Blackrock mountain. However, it says the fortress built within the mountain, "Blackrock Spire" was named after the clan ^{(HPG 167)}.

So basically Blackrock mountain existed before they got there, having been named by the dwarves. Tides of Darkness novel mentions it was an auspicous omen for the clan that they shared the same name when they learned the mountain's name from the trolls ^{(ToD 96)}. They later named their fortress within the mountain after themselves (coincidently dwarves had previously named the mountain Blackrock Spire as well ^{(MG 52) (LoC 67, 191)}). Let me refraise what I said now. Blackhand the Destroyer was dead way before the orcs even discovered Blackrock Mountain. Rend and Maim Blackhand established the Black Tooth Grin clan shortly after his death.Skreeran (talk) 05:49, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

Skin color

For RP reasons, I was wondering... Do all Blackrocks have dark grey skin? Before WoW this never seemed to be the case, but most, if not all, orcs affliated with the Blackrock clan seem to have dark skin in WoW, even Eitrigg.Skreeran (talk) 05:49, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

In WoW they probably do as a visual hint of who is from where, but in lore they may not. I think it may be like all blood elves having green eyes and all high elves having blue eyes in the game, when Alleria Windrunner's eyes were said to be green too.--User:Sandwichman2448/Sig 19:53, September 21, 2009 (UTC)

New Horde?

The article would seem to indicate that the Blackrock Clan is now almost entirely composed of those in the Dark Horde. I would contest this, after all, Rend and Maim's forces were composed of those not captured or killed. I imagine most, if not all, the Blackrocks that were interned would follow Doomhammer and Thrall, their saviors, into the New Horde.

Moreover, the banner shown on the Horde mission select screen in Warcraft 3 is that of the Blackrock clan, indicating that they are still a major part of the New Horde. Makes sense too... The Warsong have their own color and were separated from Thrall's forces throughout many parts of the game, and Thrall's forces are to numerous to be just Frostwolves.Skreeran (talk) 06:51, October 14, 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, banners of the Blackrock clan were present in various missions of Warcraf III RoC and TFT and some members were part of the Horde like Eitrigg. However I don't think that many of them followed Thrall because:

1. The Blackrock clan in Lordaeron didn't followed Thrall and continued using warlock magics. (Blackrock & Roll, Too!)
2. The Blackrock clan in Azeroth followed Rend. ^{(DF #?)}
3. And Rend took control of the Blackrock clan at the death of Doomhammer. ^{(HPG 167)}

but in Blackrock and Roll didn't we kill ALL of the Blackrock clan? well,... later Illidan faced Rend and Maim (the Bebop and Rocksteady of Warcraft) guarding a doom portal or something, but without them,...i'm guessing they're all dead. The Banner in the RoC screen also show falling infernals. That banner is not part of the horde, it was part of the Burning Legion.

What clans were playable in Warcraft II ?

Ah Warcraft,..... it wasn't just an RTS where buildings took longer to build and the map would hide itself with the fog, but the races and units and the LORE were so cool too! Troll Axethrowers were my favourite part of the Horde, and the Horde was the best faction. One of the biggest thrills we got in WC II was at first, you played with RED orcs, (which i later figured were the Blackrock) and a few missions later, the orcs were BLACK (the Troll Axethrower's nose +hair, the Ogre's belt, the grunt's armour, THE BUILDINGS) STILL, the commander leading the orc missions is always the same guy, "Urok Scratcher". Later on orc sub clans were given different colours, Warsong was purple, The Frostwolf were blue and white,... so why the colour change? Now with the map edit and multiplayer i understand units can be given a lot of colours, to tell them apart, AGAIN, same commander, same clans. I don't get it.
