From "The Devil's Dictionary":

"HIPPOGRIFF, n. An animal (now extinct) which was half horse and half griffin. The griffin was itself a compound creature, half lion and half eagle. The hippogriff was actually, therefore, a one-quarter eagle, which is two dollars and fifty cents in gold. The study of zoology is full of surprises."

Laisren, how was de.wikipedia.org your source? I don't see such thing or even an external link to any such definition. Schmidt talk 20:39, 30 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Schmidtty- All I mean by "sources" in this context is "some of the things I read to get information about this article"; not the stricter research-paper definition (used in Wikipedia) where it means "Sources cited in this article". That's why I didn't include the above on the main article page. So consider those "more info" links for anyone who might be interested; yeah? Regards, - Laisren 16:35, 20 Oct 2005 (EDT)
