"Use Detect Magic on mobs that have special skills at certain times." How is this something that non-mages want mages to know?

As this really has nothing to do with the rest of the party, perhaps it should be moved to the mage tactics page.

  • The point about Detect Magic is no longer valid; Players can now see all buffs on their target, and Detect Magic is no longer in the game.

- Also, how about "if you're fire, change to casting frost spells as they do less damage..." O_o At least change it to "don't start casting immediately but wait till the tank has agro". Can't be asking mages to change casting tree to reduce agro. That's too lol.

  • I removed "If you're a Fire spec Mage and are drawing a lot of aggro in an instance, try switching to Frost spells. Frost spells still do some damage, but nowhere near as much, so your threat also won't be as high, and you therefore won't run around with mobs chasing you and need to be rescued by the tank.". It's really too crazy, it must be a joke unnoticed from other users. IconSmall Gnome MaleIconSmall Mage Eraclito Runetotem-EU 16:15, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
  • How the heck can a player break his ally's Freezing Trap? I've walked over countless traps that a friendly Hunter used, and they NEVER went off when I walked over them. So the point of Ice Block looking like a Freezing Trap should be changed to say that your party members can't break your traps. Felindre (talkcontr)

NPOV and OOD[]

There are several problems with this article. Very little of it has been updated to reflect information accurate as of 3.0; in fact, little else has been updated for 2.0. Pig and Turtle are not the only polys anymore. Death knights are not included, and the guide assumes all warriors and pallys are tanks, and that druids are moonkin or heal. Also, the entire shaman section is over a year out of date. Please review this article and update it. Hinata Soul (talk) 03:50, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

I updated bits and pieces of the shaman section relevant to 3.2, I'm going to try and go over some other areas as well. --Fallst (talk) 18:12, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

Less is more?[]

-Story- So yesterday I made my 'first' character I chose a blood elf mage and it is now level 13. I come to wiki to try and find a guide to help me. But instead I find a massive wall of text concerning what who wants to know about who.

What I want to know is what a mage wants to know about mages. Where to go, what quests are recommended where the trainers are etc etc etc. NOT about other classes.

I think those areas of text could do to be removed, and maybe what none-mages want to know about mages should be kept, seeing as it is a mage guide it should be about mages.. anyone can just simply read the pages concerning the other classes if they need to know. Do correct me if Im wrong there, but this page could be dramatically improved to help the newbies like myself get some kind of good understanding on the class I wish to play. It is meant to be a guide afterall. :) beejay (talk) 13:04, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

With you I agree. Read what I posted above, this guide is heavily out of date. I'm highly considering rewriting the whole thing myself, since none of the original authors have stepped up in the last two months this article has been labeled as out of date.
Please provide some more input; are there things that aren't so easy to figure out? Do you have any questions, both about leveling and end-game? If so, please post them here, as sort of a guide so that I can have an idea of what to address; as most often I bet it will be newbies who look at this guide. Thanks for your comment, and I'll appreciate any input on this subject. (From both Beejay and others) Hinata Soul (talk) 17:28, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi thanks for replying, :) I thought I would reply here to keep the discussion in one place. So, I think for a good newbie guide it would be nice to have a little explanation to what the classes are like when they are low levels and what they are like on higher levels. A guide to which places mages want to go and at which levels (eg 10-20 ghostlands, 20-30 barrens), the benefits/drawbacks on the classes and some kind of information to where npcs are such as the class trainers. Also some kind of guide for spending talent points (I only found out about these a couple of days ago). Alot of the information on the page is of very little use to beginners so maybe the guide could be split up into two parts. Where there is a complete beginners guide and a guide for more experienced mages where this information may be useful. I do think that less is more for this page because there is so much text and I dont think that many people will read through the whole lot.

This is under what non-mages want mages to know: ... You might freeze a mob right next to your group's healer or fellow DPS class, who will promptly get pummeled unless he's got some mighty reflexes. 15. If you do pull aggro, you are squishy, and depending on the situation it may be a better choice for the healer to let you die. This is your own fault and not the healer or the tank. Threat management is crucial.

Pummeled/mighty reflexes/squishy?.. does need rewording, there will be people who dont speak english has a first language who may get confused. beejay (talk) 10:39, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Problems[]

There are some problems in this:

1st: Mages do NOT need stamina, they only need spellpower, intellect, crit rating and spirit

2nd: Its written in first person—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rimlanin (talkcontr).

irrelevancy[]

Most of this article is irrelevant for WotLK (Sheeping is rarely needed, and conjure water/food is learned from trainer), and should be deleted so that it won't confuse new players.Mr. Me (talkcontr) 12:16, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Added Death Knights[]

I've added Death Knights to the Class Tips section. --Fallst (talk) 19:33, September 4, 2009 (UTC)

That's great, but the page is still severely outdated. Oh man. Thanks for the good intentions though Hinata Soul (talk) 15:10, September 7, 2009 (UTC)
