Increasing Mining Skill[]
Comment really isn't needed, because it is clarified now: -- D. F. Schmidt talk 07:37, 30 Aug 2005 (EDT)
- I would argue that smelting is the better for getting you skill points up. It does become grey very quickly though. Mining will maybe get you one point per vein/node/deposit whereas smelting will get one point per bar smelted. I bumped my mining skill from 156 to 176 smelting gold and it's still orange for me. I'm planning on hunting Thousand Needles for more gold veins (which are rare I admit) until it's grey. I'm hoping I can get at least another 10-20 skill points from this. -- Overcast7

I just learned to smelt steel and im at 167 mining skill.
Unfortunatly its grey already.
Something must have changed, is it a bug?

- Some smelting "recipes" are grey when you learn them. I believe Steel is one of them. -- Montronax ( talk · contribs ) 09:16, 9 March 2007 (EST)
copper bar prices[]
I've seen copper bars sold for as much as 2gold - 2g50s I would also put in a suggestion that if your not sure of prices, checking the average price in the auction house and slightly under-cutting is a good way to sell.
My 2 cents --Nurizeko
Seems to me that subjective prices shouldn't be placed in the front page since they can vary wildly based on server economy (for instance the Jewelcrafting rush during BC release). --Kochira 17:00, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Guide[]
I've removed the external link to the mining guide because it is inaccurate and is just a gateway to gold/guide selling sites
I'd suggest removing all other links to that site
- Could you quit removing legitimate sites Flankerton? You keep removing almostgaming.com from all of the areas of wiki becuase they sell guides, but so does the other sites you left up and Almostgaming.com is definately the more authoritive source for an external link. I don't know if you know how to determine Alexa Ranking or Page Ranking but you should really learn how.~ Vanman
- Although I wouldn't call Almostgaming "authoritative", it's not breaking any rules. I will say, from a personal note, that nearly all the maps provided are of "well no duh" quality. Outline the mountainous outside edge of the zone... yea... If a player is lost as to where to get ore, they can just as easily search on wowhead instead of scrolling thru that big long page.
- Either way, they're not breaking policy, so stop this stupid edit war. TeжubԎ Ҩ Ѡ 00:57, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- The only reason Vanman is so gung-ho about almostgaming.com is because he is the webmaster and is leeching traffic from the wiki for his own personal financial gain. Anyway, I'll leave it alone as it is up to the administrator as to what happens. Just because you have an Alexa rank and Google Page Rank doesn't make your site authoritative.~ Flankerton
- Yes, he totally is, but he's abiding by the policy so there's no real grounds for removal. As I already said above, I personally don't find any value to the guide he's linking. And as for the ads littered all over that site... well I think we all know my opinion of for-pay guides. Hell, maybe I should try to leech as much traffic as I can from the wiki as a countermeasure *grin* TeжubԎ Ҩ Ѡ 12:06, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- I am actually not the webmaster of almostgaming.com. The Mining Guide is very popular and linked up throughout the internet and helps a lot of people. Just because you guys may be familiar with mining and the zones; doesn't mean everyone is. There are thousands of new people everyday in game who want to learn how to mine without knowing anything. The guide provides information that wiki does not cover. Almost Gaming happens to be a non-profit website and invests everything back into the site. If you think the mining guide is bad and you know so much more, then why not submit a revision or submit your own guide? If you don't then for everyone else's sake, please don't remove it again; you'd be amazed at how many people use it. They pay people to update the content and add new content to the site to keep it as accurate as possible and the few ads they have are for author expenses and website maintenance that keeps them free to the community. List mining picks?[]
There are several weapons which do also serve as a mining pick. They read in yellow "Also serves as a mining pick.". Just like the normal Mining Pick, you need to only have them in your inventory to be able to mine with them, so you do not have to equip them. One example is Miner's Revenge. Is it useful to provide a list of these special mining picks, perhaps in this article or in a separate one? It's not really useful information, but still fun, I think. :)
You can see the list here: Also serves as a mining pick.
Mining mobs[]
I think it should be stated in the article that some mobs that were added in Burning Crusade can be "skinned" by a Miner after they're killed. The same thing was done for Herbalism, and it was noted on the Herbalism article. Felindre (talk) 18:54, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Titansteel Mats are Wrong[]
I believe the specific mats for that recipe might vary randomly by player. As an example, my mats are 3 Titanium Bars, 1 Etarnal Fire, 1 Eternal Earth and 1 Eternal Shadow. This contradicts what is written in the article. --Coolcoder (talk) 21:10, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Combine mats can't be random. If the article is wrong, fix it. TeжubԎ Ҩ Ѡ 21:13, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Gatherer note[]
Added a note about Gatherer mod. A friend or guildmate can send you their node data. The High-level herbalism and Miner of my guild showed me this and subsequently sent me somewwhere around 7500 Herbalism/mining/Chest locations in the world which he'd mined. VERY nice feature
Can't promise the post is up to Wikia standards, though. somebody can edit it so it sounds better Kheetah (talk) 18:11, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Overhaul[]
This page was ugly. Overhauled it and several derivative, related pages. Feel free to discuss those changes here. // ProjektTHOR (talk) 02:55, September 14, 2009 (UTC)
Rock Respawning?[]
If you've just mined a rock, will it respawn eventually if you're in it's general vicinity, or in front of where it was, for example, if it respawns in the same spot everytime? Daedryon (talk • contr) 01:30, November 6, 2009 (UTC)
- Same spot everytime. User:Coobra/Sig4 01:59, November 6, 2009 (UTC)
- How long does a respawn generally take, because I was sitting in front of a Copper rock spawn point for half an hour and it never spawned. I'm starting to think maybe rocks only respawn if you leave a certain vicinity. Daedryon (talk • contr) 03:19, November 6, 2009 (UTC)
- The spawn nodes are in fixed locations, but there's no guarantee that a certain node will be spawned at any given time. If you mine a node and sit next to it, it may respawn there, or it may respawn in one of the other empty nodes. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 04:17, November 6, 2009 (UTC)
