Aggro mechanic[]

There's some doubt as to whether Patchwerk's "wont stop attacking a target till dead" aggro mechanic is exactly correct, see this video of a mage pulling aggro --Kaso 20:14, 22 July 2006 (EDT)

One of our offtanks pulled aggro last night as well. We're unsure why. Murodese 21:30, 13 August 2006 (EDT)

Have edited the page to reflect this somewhat. There is a still a somewhat confusing reference to it at the start of the aggro section. Also hateful strikes are applied to the person with most HP, I don't know why people keep editing it to say threat, that's simply not true. Galencia 09:40, 17 August 2006 (EDT)

A few weeks ago, pulled Patchwerk in 10-man without clearing the adjoining room on the way in - the one with all the mini blobs. The abomination and the miniblobs there also agroed and joined in upon our pulling Patchwerk. I do not know whether the mini-blobs pulled the abomination, the abomination pulled the mini-blobs, or they both pulled with Patchwerk. The next room further out, the one where Grobby shoots his blobs is definitely not attached to Patchwerk. Found that out on a different run. I'd like the info added once I get at least someone else confirming as I'm not 100% certain it wasn't a glitch Rei-gouki (talk) 20:45, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Hateful strike[]

One section of the page states that it attacks the highest hp target, one section states it attacks the 2nd threat regardless of hp, which is it, or is there two different hateful strike abilities?

If it were the second on the aggro list, wouldn't it hit the same Offtank everytime ? --Thundor 19:04, 24 August 2006 (EDT)

Hateful strike attack speed is posted here to be approx 1.2 seconds while the post also links to a tactics where it says 2.0 seconds. Other tactics posts say 1.5 seconds. Does anyone actualy know the correct attack speed for hateful strike? Would be a good piece of information to build a healing stradegy.--Raqtor 10:44, 25 November 2006 (EST)

So I tested a theory last night based off of the "Highest threat" characteristic of the hateful strike. In 10 man I had the melee wait about 15 seconds before engaging and make sure that they stay below the top 5 threat targets at all times. We popped bloodlust when the melee joined so that we would have another if we needed it near the end. The melee dps never got smacked once, even with the OT not topped off. Going to try this in 25 man tonight we'll see if it's solid or if it was a fluke. --Warigar 13:13, Dec 9, 2008

Misinformation[]

The Patchwerk page is in serious need of a revamp and contains far too much incorrect information.

  • No real "priming" occurs with regards to Hateful Strike. There are two conditions to hateful strike: 1) It will only hit the top three melee players on the threat list excluding the main tank, and 3) It will hit the person with the highest HP satisfying condition #1. If the term "prime" is used it must first be defined as condition #1. Hateful Strike does not automatically hit the player with the most HP.
  • There are no threat gimmicks. Threat works exactly the same as in every other fight. It seems different because tanks are always at 100 rage due to the massive damage inflicted. Infinite rage leads to a ton of threat. It is completely possible for a Hateful Strike tank to surpass the main tank in threat, usually resulting in a wipe.
  • Druid bear tanks do not make good offtanks. A well geared tank can dodge and parry up to 50% of Patchwerk's Hateful Strikes. Druids achieve far less. A parry at the right time can and usually will make the difference between killing Patchwerk and wiping.
Sure about this? A druid can achieve 30% dodge I think. A warrior with 22% dodge and 12% parry will have (1-.22)*(1-.12)=68.64 1-68.6=31.4 .. 31.4% of HS won't land..
Druids can't block. No block value. A warrior's dodge and parry are far higher than that.
This, at least, is POV, which isn't acceptable per this wiki's policies. There are differences of opinion as to whether druids make good off-tanks for this fight. We can present both sides, but it is no editor's place to proclaim one or the other view as correct. Eorl 02:02, 16 September 2006 (EDT)
The paragraph about druid tanking HS was removed by Whodi. I replaced it with a more informative + NPOV version --Tangedyn 23:30, 19 October 2006 (EDT)
Umm, hateful strike most definitely DOES add threat to the top 2 or three on the aggro list every tiem it goes off. This includes the main tank, and the off tanks. In fact, it adds quite a bit of threat.  This is to stop DPS from pulling aggro.  If a DPS jumps in very early it IS possible to pull aggro, but as logn as the dps waits for a few hatefuls to go off, they can go all out safely.  An offtank CAN pull threat if s/he is not careful, though, and if the main tank is undergeared, this CAN cause a wipe when HS strikes the main tank.74.211.59.65 04:35, December 2, 2013 (UTC)

Berserk Timer[]

The Berserk timer on the article is wrong, I tested it twice this evening, Its real timer is 5 minutes, not 6 minutes, possibly a change from Beta to Live.

Is that 10 man or 25 man? The one in question I believe is 10 man. I've done him many times; had many wipes and also killed. It seems very much like it is 6 minutes or is at least 5 minutes triggered at X% rather than a solid 5 minutes from engaging. I think this needs more discussion and feedback. I will watch very closely next time I fight him and do a manual timer aswell starting at the pull. I recommend others do the same. /timer in wow. --Warigar 12:19, 26 November 2008 (CST)

--- Can someone confirm, that the damage dealt by Patchwerk is increased by 1000% (and not only 100%)? It would cause 200.000 damage to plate wearers and no one would survive this ... --samot 15:44, 13 February 2009

The hard enrage is to ensure, no one will survive, though I don't know if the 1000% is correct... I know for sure that he will one-shot anyone in the hard enrage phase. This encounter is designed as a "dps race".

Healing strategies?[]

If anyone can contribute some good strategies for the healing corps for this fight, I think it would be a useful addition to the page. (For example, how to assign healers, what ranks to use, whether to precast-and-cancel or not, etc.) There are usually several threads in the Blizz R&D forums but due to the text search being down they roll off the bottom and a lot of useful information is lost. Luci 13:39, 8 October 2006 (EDT)

A full T1 priest in the OT group that will spam rank 1 prayer of healing to cheapely maintain inspiration on the group. Talents should include reduced mana cost for that spell and of course inspiration. The full T1 set bonus make it for the critical bonus on the prayer. --Tobei 10:33, 10 October 2006 (EDT)

We actually had OOM issues doing this fight with the healers near the last 20% right before innervate was back up. We had two druids and one pally healing. What ended up happening was since we had no mana regen of any kind the pally judged wisdom on the boss and the healers would do a melee hit or two on the boss to get that 1% mana buff when they felt appropriate. Standing close to Patchwerk didn't seem to be an issue because of the threat/hp thing on hateful strike. This allowed us to keep enough mana for all the healers so we could down him before the berserk and be a bit more liberal on the bigger heals. (Note that this was on our first run through of the 10 man Naxx and our tanks were not uncrittable and most of us were still in T6) --Warigar 11:28, 26 November 2008 (CST)

References to Tank Abilities[]

The reference to Shileld Wall should include a note about similar abilities, such as Divine Protection for Paladins or Bone Shield for Deathknights. Warriors are no longer the only viable tanks for end-game raiding. --Kuroukaze 9:49, 3 november 2008 PST

Acherus[]

Doesn't he also appear in Acherus, during the Battle for the Ebon Hold?  Jormungand01 IconSmall Rogue (talk - contr) 09:52, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

I think I read he does but I am not sure. Rolandius Paladin ( - contr) 09:56, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

He does. And you (alongside NPC deathknights) kill him while taking Acherus from the Scourge. Which makes one wonder how many times he was killed (Old Naxx, Acherus, New Naxx) or how the Scourge managed to get the remains of Patch out of Acherus--Neakal (talk) 00:05, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

[[User talk:Rolandius|Same way they got him in?--User:Sandwichman2448/Sig 00:33, 8 December 2008 (UTC) ]]
It's one thing getting an abomination into a friendly necropolis, quite another trying to get out again when there's hundreds of enemy death knights in the way. If they had all been defeated Acherus would now be back in the hands of the Scourge, and it would be extremely difficult to sneak past unnoticed while dragging the body of a massive abomination. Who knows? Jormungand01 IconSmall Rogue talk · contribs 08:40, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
I dunno, maybe Darion just chucked him off the side and figured that was that? -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 20:47, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
I'd agree with that. But if you're gonna poke at Patchwerk, there's also the issue of Baron Ravendere(sp?) popping up in Naxx after getting killed a few bazillion times by people after his mount in Stratholme. I'm thinking Arthas has a soft spot and keeps raising them despite their failures. There's also the possibility that they just put another Patch together then transfered his consciousness in or something. Rei-gouki (talk) 20:50, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
No, it's definitely the same Patchwerk.  He says he's on loan. 74.211.59.65 04:42, December 2, 2013 (UTC)
