In response to the recent killings in Norway on July 22nd, several Norwegian gaming chains have decided to remove World of Warcraft from their shelves, as reported by Metro.co.uk.

Admitted killer Anders Behring Breivik spoke of Warcraft among other games in his manifesto, including BioShock 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Dragon Age, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Some he said he used as opportunities for "training". Warcraft (or rather claiming addiction to it) served as an excuse to stay home to plan attacks.

It does not appear that other retailers are following suit in other countries. Even in Norway, the move is "temporary", and done out of respect for those that were affected by the massacres. Gaming retailers such as Coop Norway insist they'll be thinking hard about what games they'll allow in the future, but that remains to be seen. Violence in video games and other media are often cited when discussing such events, but the debate rages just how much influence such media has on healthy minds.
